photo of check for mobile deposit turns sideways when viewed in camera

[Android Central Question]

taking a picture of check in bank photo app the check turns sideways. So when I line up to take portrait pic it shows the check as landscape and when I turn phone to take in landscape it shows it in portrait. Only way to get four corners in the box is to take it from further distance. any ideas? I've talked with bank app and they have never heard of such a thing happening. Perhaps gremlins? Any ideas would be most helpful and appreciated.

Try to disable auto rotate

As Mustang suggests, auto-rotate may be the problem. When a camera is pointed close to straight up/down, they often get confused regarding portrait vs landscape.

I would just like to know if this was resolved.? I am having the same problem and your answers didn't fix it. It turns the check automatically when I point camera at it and then ot won't fit in the box unless held really far back and then the image looks long and thin.will not accept it.
