Picked up the Sony Blu-ray with Google TV yesterday

After checking Sony's website and a couple reviews it seems that the Sony player is really limited to what it can stream and play from your computer or usb drive. The Logitech device has many more codecs supported, might be the better one to go with right now. I ordered the Logitech device today from Best Buy should be here next tues.

The Logitech Media Player supports many different file types, including:

Music: AAC (.aac), FLAC (.flac), MP3 (.mp3), OGG (.ogg),WMA (.wma)
Photos: JPEG (.jpg, .jpeg), BMP (.bmp) PNG (.png), TIFF (.tiff)
Videos: WMV (VC-1) (.asf .wma .wmv), WMV (VC-1) + WMA (.asf .wma .wmv), WMV + WMA (.avi), Xvid (H-264) + AAC (.avi),
Xvid (H-264) + AAC (.mp4), Xvid (H-264) + AAC (.mt2s .mt2), Xvid (MPEG4part2) + AAC (.avi), Xvid (MPEG4part2) + MP3 (.avi)

Keep in mind thats just what the app thats included plays. You should be able to download another media player that plays more when the android store gets enabled.

I bought the Sony Blu-ray box yesterday, so I'm about 12 hours in (minus sleeping time).

It has a lot of promise and a bunch of flaws.

As a quick summary, the Netflix app is awful. I haven't seen any lag in the menu and the update took about 10 minutes. Setup was easy enough and the search is very very slick.

Overall, I can see where it's headed and it will be cool, but this thing _really_ needs apps to be successful...

If you want more on the pros and cons I've found so far, I wrote it up here:

For those interested in more information about the Sony device, please see the following forum. I don't want you to not post here or not contribute, but the AVSForum is much more active.

Sony NSZ-GT1 with GOOGLE TV - AVS Forum

I don't visit here a ton, but feel free to ask me questions about this box.

The biggest flaws I see are the following. Some of these things pertain to the Sony device in particular and others are in regards to Google TV in general.

- PRICE for what you get today. Give it 6 months, and this product will have worked out many of the bugs and problems.

- This device does not do HDMI pass through of the audio signal from your Cable or Satellite box. HDMI or Optical output is downmixed to a 2 Channel PCM stream.

- The remote has fixed functions, and can not be programed or can not be taught macros. Is also does not turn off your Cable or Satellite box. It is a pretty good remote for typing, but it also takes multiple button pushes to do many functions

- The Sony GTV BR only accepts RF signals, so you can't use your universal IR remote like a Harmony One. Also others have found that they can't even program their Harmony RF remote to control the device. I hope you like the Sony Remote.

- GoogleTV is currently blocked from viewing Hulu, CBS.com, ABC.com, NBC.com, and Fox is considering doing the same. Google is working on this, but who knows when it will be resolved.

- Limited App support. It does a really good job of seamlessly playing online content, but it needs more direct App support and overall more content.

- Cable/ Satellite box SD video scaling inconsistencies. This box doesn't scale the SD signal well, and doesn't fill your TV screen like it does if you have your Cable/ Satellite box directly connected to your television. HD feeds are fine, but it is not consistent with the SD feeds.

- It does not support PlayOn as a UPnP Media Server

- Pandora continues to play when you switch from this app to Live TV.
