Pics/Videos in Google Photos not visible in Samsung "Gallery" app, Help?

Switching from a Google Nexus 5, where I used the Photos app (which i think has ties to Google+) solely. I liked because sync was in place and I could easily go on my photos.google.com and see the pictures there too (and share them).

Now it seems that with the Samsung Galaxy S6, the camera app writes to Gallery. I looked under the Application Settings for Photos and Gallery and neither one has Defaults setup, so I am not sure IF there is a way to force the Camera to use Photos, or force their "Messaging" (not Hangouts) to use Photos. It seems that when you use Messaging and identify a Photo manually from Photos, that it wont attach it, since it isnt ALSO in Gallery.

How can I fix this? Should I just switch to Gallery and download all my pics from Photos (clicking the Sync icon in the top right of each one)? I dislike a lot of the non Vanilla Android stuff forcing me to Gallery. What if I want an HTC phone next? Ugh.

:EDIT:
The whole reason this is a concern for me is that I couldnt MMS a pic I can select in Photos, unless i Save it so it is in Gallery.

So I installed Google Messenger to test that vs the Samsung Messages. The Google Messenger, cant see the pics in Photos either! wild. Still trying to determine the root cause.

Mod Note, I will move this to the n5 forum for more visibility

I think most of those apps can only see locally stored files internally. But if you go into the Photos app, you can share to those apps from there. At which point it'll download a copy then attach it.

I have the same issue with Google Drive files saved hangouts. Can't get there from hangouts, but from GD, I can share anything.

That doesn't work though. If I go in to Photos and share to Messages it says Downloading... then I get the message "Unable to attach file"

Grr..

Have you tried Google Messenger? I was just able to share to a SMS.

I did. I had that on my N5. But on my S6, if I go to Messenger, then go to Attachments, Photos (google app) it cant see the 486 photos that are there. It shows 1 photo, which is the same photo that is in Gallery.
Weeeirrddd...

I want to make sure I was clear, yes I installed Google Messenger too, to test that out. It cant even see the pics in Photos, but it see's Photos.

Well, Photos has two sets of photos in it... the locally stored photos, and photos that have been backed up and are no longer local. They haven't fully integrated the cloud stuff into the apps, so in order to share a photo, it has to be on the phone first. So if you go from the app, say Messanger, you will only see the local files. If you open Google Photos and find the pic you want and share from there, you'll be able to attach it. If you still get an error there, there's something odd going on.

It's odd... it SHOULD let you get to the cloud files directly (from sharing from the SMS app), but I guess they haven't got quite there yet.

Google Photos and your OEM gallery (or any gallery) app play along just fine. Photos monitors the file system (/sdcard/DCIM to be exact) for a new picture then pushes it up to your Google Drive storage.

There's something strange at work here...

Launch Google Photos. Open a Photo (that is in the cloud, not local)
Click the three dots to share.
Select Messages
Downloading..
Sharing to Messanges
Please wait while item is added to slideshow ("Sharing to Messages" little gray line on the bottom)
Then little gray line changes to "Unable to attach file..."

If I decide I want to share from Google Photos to Google Hangouts, it is even worse. I open a conversation, click attach image on the bottom, then Open From, and select Photos from the list of apps on the left. Then I see "Photos" with no pictures listed just a gray box (preview). Then under neath it "Device Folders" with 1 photo (its true, local photo, which WOULD work!). I click "photos" and it goes to "Select a photo" with the circle spinning in the center. It spins forever...

I can however go in to Photos, find a photo in the cloud, then Share to Hangouts, select a conversation and attach. It goes that way, but not from Hangouts to browse Photos.

I found a thread elsewhere I hope may shed some light in time. I replied with videos:

Fixed in v1.11.xxx of Photos, released on 12/16 at 12:30 pm.
Not visible on my account on either my N5 or my S6, but others can see it.. Google must phase the roll out.

I got the APK online.
