Picture in picture.

Hi Guys.

Can someone give me step by step instructions on how to play a YouTube video and then exit out of it to keep it playing on the screen while I do something else.

Everytime I press the Home Button it just closes out YouTube and goes to my home screen.

Not the split screen feature.

I've checked in my apps settings and its allowed.

I have been wondering about this same question lately. I would like for a Youtube music channel to continue playing songs when I exit out of the app and have my phone entirely turned off by pressing the power button. Pandora and Spotify will continue playing music even with my phone turned off, this is the same thing I want from Youtube. But I recently saw a promotional ad come across my screen from Youtube asking me to pay for some type of premium service to have this feature enabled. Although I want this feature, I don't think it's worth paying a subscription monthly fee for it. Lame. I am in the U.S. if that makes any difference, and yes I have P.I.P. function enabled on my Note 10+ phone.

It's not a premium YouTube feature. You have to make sure picture in picture is allowed in the settings.

Since it seems to be a bit confusing on this thread, a summary:
1) PiP is not a premium feature. Yes, it must be enabled in the Settings. Yes, the video must support it (some content disables it, mostly music videos). No, this does not mean you can turn the screen off and keep listening to the video. Yes, this seems to be a region-limited feature, so not all countries will see this work.
2) Background playback (while the screen is off/phone locked) IS a premium feature. It is not the same as PiP (aka Floating Window).

Check out the attached screenshot advertisement from YouTube while I'm watching videos. This has popped up on my screen a number of times. What I would like is for YouTube to keep playing (example: Music videos) in the background even after I turned off the phone. This is what Pandora and Spotify music apps are able to do for free. If I interpret YouTube's advertisement correctly, they want me to pay for this premium service to keep playing in the background after turning off the phone.

Yes. YouTube only offers background play for premium accounts, NOT free. This is NOT Picture in Picture, where the video continues to play as you continue to use your phone with another app. Once you turn the screen off, the video overlay also shuts off (unless you have a premium account).

I subscribe to YouTube premium. Ad Free and also includes Google Music. You can actually get a 6 month trial since you purchased a Note 10.

Ty! Was messing with today & couldn't figure out why it would only work sometimes or if there was something I was doing to make it work but couldn't repeat. Was driving me crazy.

How do you get the free trial?

You should see the Free Trial option right on the screen or as you try to subscribe through the app on any newer Samsung device (S10, Note 10, Tab S4, Tab S5e, Tab S6). HOWEVER the extended trial is only valid for NEW users. If you've ever used your account to subscribe or to sign up for a trial before (and this includes trials of the older Google Play Music plans), then the extended period will not apply and you'll only see the standard 1 week/1 month trials.

Thanks again!
