Picture messages received as videos

From the very first day of getting this phone, every picture message I receive comes as a video. Is there a way to turn this off? I can't seem to find a setting for this.

It's not just you guys. I have a GS3 and I occasionally get the same thing. While most picture messages are sent to me from my wife and friends (mostly all using iPhones), it only happens about half of the time. I've come to the conclusion it does that when they send an MMS a certain way. I think if they send the pic directly from the messaging app, it comes as a pic. If they send the pic from the gallery first, it sends as a video (to accommodate multiple pics in one message). That's the only thing I've been able to come up with.

I'm pretty sure this is an iPhone thing (the way iPhone sends multiple shots in an MMS. If I remember correctly, on my phone if you long press the video, it gives you an option to save the individual pictures.

I've noticed this only when the sender includes text and pictures together in the same message. It doesn't happen if they send the picture by itself. And for me, it doesn't happen with everyone. Most people can send me pictures/text together and everything is fine. I'm not sure what causes it for some people .. very puzzling.

I have the same problem. I recently received a group message that came through as a video file. I responded and it generated identical10 texts for everyone. I also have unreliable sending and receiving of MMS.

Why there isn't a universal texting standard is beyond me.

I'm pretty sure you're right. I haven't been able to figure out what causes it--generally I get MMS from iPhones with pic and text and they work fine, but sometimes I get a video slide show even with just one picture. As expected, I always get a slide show if someone tries to send me two or more pics in one MMS. This happened on my old Android phone running Gingerbread as well.

There may be a carrier aspect to it as well, but I'm not 100% sure.

I've never gotten a single picture as a slide show when it was sent by anything other than an iPhone.

I have the same issue on my GN2. I5 happens when people send text and pic in 1 message. If I send the pic by itself then text it works correctly. This must be an android OS issue since many different phones have this same issue.
