Picture messaging 16mp photos

Ok I'm slowly reading about the diff coming from ios to droid, but its still taking me a while to digest everything. Text Messaging seems to be a huge pain between me ios and users. Before i could simply take a pic with my iphone 4s and send it to all my ios friends. I cant remember what resolution my 4s was but im assuming the pics and videos send were full resolution as viewing them even on the computer looked great.

So are my g4 photos too high res to do the same? Or is this an MMS SMS limitation? Or is this my carrier limitation? I know there's settings in my text app (textra) that dumb down the photo to 1 or 2 mb or less but these results look awful. Sending it full res results in the message not going through at all, 'image too large' or whatever my carrier says but yhis limit even over wifi??

Can someone clarify or point me in the right direction to understanding this MMS SMS limitations?

The camera on your phone is to high res for their measly iOS contraptions lol.

I was also on iOS until Monday just gone.

Photo resizer on the play store will allow you to downscale images to send to iOS users.

Its not only ios users, android users are the same.
I just tried sending a full res picture message to my wife (she has a g4 also) right beside me on our home wifi and it couldn't go through. So it seems like even when logged into a wifi network, picture messaging still goes through my carrier??

Should we BOTH go into airplane mode but turn on wifi? Will picture messaging go through wifi explicitly then?? This is so confusing.

Just NFC to her phone by touching the backs of your phones together and send it to her that way? Very similar to airdrop

Sending it via mms will require pictures be less than 1mb.

Either email the pictures, send them via gchat on hangouts, use nfc etc. Or the stock messaging app should make them. Smaller and have it go through

MMS is always sent via data, and there are some strict size restrictions. Between iPhone users, you're actually using a closed proprietary network, iMessage, that allows for unrestricted file size. It's installed by default on iOS devices so most people don't even realize they're using it.


On Android, you'll need to choose some other closed system like Hangouts, WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger, etc. Those are certainly popular outside the US where Sms isn't as widely used as here.

This cannot be achieved by MMS. Too old and small of packets. You can send them, but they will get reduced. A lot of people send them over popular messaging apps like Line or Whatsapp, but they also get reduced (of course... Some of my G4 images are over 10mb!). If you REALLY want to share full sized images, NFC touching, use Shareit by Lenovo, (which is a VERY good app for sharing). But if you want to message it at full resolution, you could consider uploading to dropbox and sharing a link.

I have no knowledge of ANY "service" for messaging that sends full sized images, other than email. Even then, I remember iOS reduced its size back when I had an iPhone 4.

Try the solutions I've mentioned above But if you send a friend a 10mb picture, and they're not on unlimited data, I don't think they'll enjoy receiving your pics as much after the first 3-4 haha.

It's limited by carrier. Textra can have a no limit option but the carrier can restrict it. Send hi res photos by email maybe?

I use resizemypix - it does a good job as well.

Alternatively you can use Manual Camera (a decent camera app) for when you know you're taking photos specifically for sharing; it has resolution options. http://forums.androidcentral.com/showthread.php?t=553543
