Pictures are always rotated

Whenever I take pictures on my note 2 and i want to upload the pics on Instagram I always have to to rotate them first. i find this so annoying. I never take pics in landscape mode. does anybody know how i can correct this? thanks!

Otherwise, I'm stumped, and I'm inclined to say it's a problem with Instagram.

This happens to me in GoSMS. Yes, I am taking the picture vertically, but the phones today are smart enough to know "if he's taking the picture vertically, he probably wants a portrait picture". It's strange though, if I click share and select GoSMS, it turns my portrait pictures to landscape. However, if I select the native messaging program it leaves the picture in portrait and does not rotate it.

(for the Sprint version), it's just an app titled "Messaging" and looks like an evelope with a message coming out of the envelope.
