Android Central Question

why am I losing my pictures off of my Google pixel 2 phone? over and over again I take pictures and then when I go back to look at them the following day or days later they're gone including a whole section of pictures from Arlington cemetery... are you kidding me? for the price of this phone? do you have any idea how important those pictures were. this is just proof newer is not always better

I'm not sure of what it's proof of. I've never had a problem with losing photos except due to my screwing up. Even then, Google managed to get most of them back. I've also never heard of someone having a problem losing random photos. I don't think it's a common problem.

Did you check Google Drive to see if the missing pictures were stored there?

I have pictures on Google Drive going back to 2008, and the only ones that are "missing" are the ones I've deleted. And I have a Pixel 2 now. It's not the phone.

Welcome to Android Central! Use the Files app and look directly in the /DCIM/Camera directory. Do you see any of the missing photo files there?

There was a bug a couple of months ago where a photo taken by the Camera app wouldn't save, but this would only happen on rare occasions, and usually only for a single photo, not for a large batch of them. I believe that bug was fixed with either the November or December security patch. What update is your phone on?

It's happened in the past but I always check after I am done taking photos. A daily reboot will keep this from happening and other annoying problems.
