Since I am getting reacquainted with Samsung devices, I am not sure if this is a Samsung thing or Pie

When restarting my phone I notice that I have to actually unlock the device to complete the boot. I am it talking about requiring a PIN to restart, but unlocking the device into the homescreen.

That is really not an issue per se, but any new notifications, like text messages, will not come through unless I in lock the phone. This imposes a problem for me since I get paged out from work.

Does anyone have this issue or know if there is an option to turn this off? I have never seen this until I moved to Samsung and Pie.

You have to turn off "Strong protection" in settings. It's under Settings>Biometrics and security>Other security settings.

Thank you! That was driving me nuts.

I got a free pizza and beer coupon for you if you want it.

( Coupon may or may not be expired. )

While it does fix your "issue", it's a really bad idea to do this.

Basically, your phone (and the data inside it) is now fully decrypted all the time, that isn't good.

He can still have a secure lock method (fingerprint, pin, swipe) to unlock the phone.

While I understand that this removed the encryption, the trade off is that I do not have to worry about NOT getting a page should the phone reboot. Unfortunately it is in my job's description to be accessible 24x7.
