Hello all,

I just have a question regarding my photos on my new Pixel 4xl. I recently made the switch from the Pixel 2 xl and before the switch had all my photos and apps backed up. On my old Pixel 2 xl my photos were of course all divided up in the library in different folders (camera, downloads, whatsapp, twitter, instagram, screenshots, etc...) After I made the switch to the Pixel 4 xl all my old photos I had on my old phone are now under the 'Photos' tab. They are not separated in different folders any longer. All my camera pics, downloads, whatsapps images are now in the 'photos' folder. I have a gazillion downloaded images just from browsing the internet, from twitter all mixed up with my camera pics. God forbid I have to find a pic I actually took with my camera from a few months ago, it will take me forever. And all those downloaded images from browsing, whatsapp or twitter don't even seem to be chronological. Some of the first few pictures in my photos are like whatsapps from a friend from like 3 years ago.

Is there any way to fix this?

Thanks for the help!

That's because the folders you are referring to are temporary folders on the pixels local disk/memory which get backed up to Google photos. To truly have a folder like experience you need to actually start creating albums and add the photos into albums this way no matter what happens to your phone weather is upgrading or bc you list your phone when you log in those folders will be there on your new device and even on the web.

Thanks for the reply! Are you saying I would have to manually move each one of the pictures I took with my camera for example to a separate folder every time?

For example you go into the folder you want and select all or the ones you want and click add to album and you can add it to an existing album or create a new one and move it all in one shot. I created a short video recording of the process hopefully it will be helpful and hopefully can view it. See the Google photos link below. Note this was done but photos for me has updated to a new version so the UI looks a little bit different than it did a few days ago but it's the same concept.
