Pixel 4XL screen dark with incoming phone calls

Another day, another dumb android problem.....

So, app notification is on, as you can't turn it off. Cleared cache. Cleared storage. Rebooted phone. Default dialer. Clean sensors. No screen protector over sensors.

With incoming calls, ring tone works, but screen is dark. I have to use the power button to wake screen up, to answer calls.

Anyone else have this happen to them?

This might be a stupid answer, but is the app's theme setting set to dark?

I have seen this issue happen (and read about it) on numerous different phone models. The only consistent thing seems to be all the phones use the stock Android Dialer (Phone app). It must be something related to the stock Android phone app? I have never seen an actual solution....short of factory reset of course

Does this happen consistently, or only occasionally? If it always happens, see if it goes away in Safe Mode.

All of the time.

Ok, boot into Safe Mode and see if it happens: https://support.google.com/pixelphone/answer/2852139?hl=en. If it goes away, then something you installed is likely causing the issue.
