Like the title says whenever I go to record video I'm now getting this message. Camera app version 8.4.300.414775575.18. All permissions are allowed. Microphone says it's permission was last accessed at the same exact time as I was trying to record a video.

Edit: I did sideload the December update to my Pixel, Verizon variant.

I would start by locating the camera all vis settings>apps and clear cache etc. Reset that entire app settings and see what happens.

Done that still get the same message about not being able to record audio.

Maybe you can try searching for "camera" in Google play to bring up the Google Camera and the clock the uninstall button in order to uninstall the latest update then go back again and click "update" to update it again and see if that helps. I have attached a screenshot of what I'm referring too.

Oh two more things to try. Can you try another app that uses microphone like the Google recording all to ensure that your Mic works and it's Google Camera specific just to rule out being a mic hardware issue or even a OS bug bc I'd hate to recommend a factory reset.

Another thing to try reboot in safe mode and I believe the camera is still accessible I'm not 100% but check and see if perhaps it lets you record with mic there.

Apparently restarting the phone seemed to have helped resolve this random issue.

I once had a game (was it a game? maybe some other app - I don't recall) on my phone that would grab the mic and not let it go. I found that I had to force stop the bad app in order to get it to release the mic.

Hello, anyone else having this issue ? I have it since forever and it does not seem to be getting fixed anytime soon. I have tried everything there is, rebooting, force stopping apps and processes, even factory reset.

The culprit app, the one responsible for keeping the microphone busy, is very possible through my research to be the Facebook Messenger app. When it is installed, it seems that from time to time I cannot use the microphone at my camera. Sometimes, also, while it is working on Messenger while recording an audio or video, after a while suddenly stops working.

The workaround I do is, I open Messenger, try to take a video and fail cause the microphone is not working and then close Messenger app. I do this 3-4 times and then somehow I can record normally with audio and this is the point that the microphone works again.

I have also tried force closing Messenger, or removing its permission to automatically use the microphone, but the annoying issue still persists.

I am not sure, though, if really the app responsible is Messenger, cause it seems I cannot find information about this issue nowhere online with some good solution. I am very frustrated that even the factory reset didn't resolve the issue.

I, also, cannot return the phone to ask for a replacement, as I live in a country where Google does not ship, and I bought it while I was on a trip in December.

Any propositions would be so so great.

Thanks a lot!
