Pixel 6a Getting Updated Finger Print Scanner.

Very much needed imo. The Pixel 6 and 6 Pro had the slowest and least reliable fingerprint scanner in a high end smartphone. It was really quite poor.

Kinda funny that the budget 6a will have a (potentially) better fingerprint scanner than the flagship 6 and 6 Pro, but it's better than putting in the same scanner.

Hopefully the 6a fingerprint scanner is good and it's used in the 7/7 Pro, or Google go with an even better one in the future phones.

Have had my 6a since Friday. Having problems with fingerprint scanner (surprise, surprise). Very difficult to get a fingerprint to register - stops just before the "circle" completes. Once registered, recognizes fingerprint only occasionally.

Oh, no! That's unfortunate. Keep us posted on what happens! Occasional recognition is definitely a bummer. :(

Even though I'm having a problem with the fingerprint scanner, really like the phone so far. Upgraded from a 3a.

By the way, both my wife and I upgraded from the 3a to the 6a. She's having the same problem I'm experiencing with the fingerprint scanner. We've both put on a LK tempered glass screen protector and have increased the touch sensitivity in settings. My wife had a similar problem with the 3a, but I did not. That was also protected with LK tempered glass protectors.

Just wanted to lay out all the facts that might impact the scanning. Will be interest to see other's experiences now that the 6a is in the hands of the general public as opposed to tech reviewers.

Google simply DOES NOT care about its customers because they don't have to...period. There are more Pixel 6A commercial all over TV than I have ever seen from Google ...ever! They're just trying to unload their surplus of Tensor SOC's to get ready for the Pixel 7 to be released in a few short weeks. They figure if only 1/3 are sent back...no biggie...just send them a "refurbished" unit...read "a unit that was returned as defective by someone else" and deal with the fallout as it comes. Google is SOOOOOO BIIIGGGGGG that it doesn't matter to them! The potential losses are like pocket change to them. I truly hope someone out there will start a class action lawsuit that will poke them in the eyes due to their atrocious customer service by dropping these junk phones on the general public! It makes me sick and is NOT funny and I don't even own one of these 6 series phones. Utterly shameful!

Saw a suggestion to try putting moisturizer on your fingers, let it dry, then try to register fingerprints. It worked for both me and my wife! Was easily able to register fingerprints and can unlock consistently. Will have to try it for a few days. Hope I don't have to use moisturizer any time I want to unlock the phone.

When and where did you acquire your amazing mind reading abilities? Damn, if I had the insight you do with corporate maneuvering I'd start picking stocks!

I didn't have much problem registering my thumbprint. My only issue is remembering to hold it on the screen long enough. I'm coming from a 3aXL.

IMO the scanner is on par with the pixel 6. Better, but still no up to oneplus or samsung efficiency.

I just received my new Pixel 6A set up the fingerprint sensor and it works super quick. No problems whatsoever. I'm downloading Android 13 beta. I'll see if that makes any changes.
This device acts like a Flagship device it's so smooth and super fast. Only issue I have encountered is using the fingerprint sensor on a app makes it seem slower but not that bad. Unlocking the phone is super quick.

So glad that the fingerprint sensor is working well for you, especially when you're unlocking the device! Keep us posted!
