So ive been able to get into the habit not even touching my phone at work, i throw a call command at it and continue typing or writing. I started this habit on my iPhone 7 and it was perfect everytime. The room could be noisy and the phone would flawlessly accept my command.

I switched to the Google Pixel 2 because i assumed the experience would be better. But this phone has the worst voice recognition and totally ruins my work flow.

twice now a service on the phone messes up and stops trying to recognize my voice all together even two inched from my mouth.

Does anyone know if there is a fix for this? I cant beleive that android would not have the upper hand on apple with this technology.

Actually it does. Google AI is way ahead of others. I do a lot more with Google Assistant than you describe and don't have any issue. English is not my native language but Google Assistant has no problem understanding my accent. The more you talk to Google, the better it understand you.

do you have the pixel 2? I am starting to feel like it is just the phone. My google home does a lot better, but obviously im not using it at work or making calls with it.

You may need to retrain your voice with it. Google Assistant is by the far most capable assistant of them all (not even just fan boying.. my iphone / die hard apple buddies agree).

I would just be happy to have voice dial abilities without being connected to the net. My old Motorola Droid Bionic was heads and shoulders above Google Assistant in recognizing my voice dials and I didn't have to worry about the contacts being synced to my Google account either.

Yeah they just don't build many with voice recognition on the phone. I don't really ever not have a connection so I don't personally have said issue.

This is very unusual. I have had nothing but amazing voice recognition experiences with the Pixel 2. Even my Galaxy phones were very good when it came to Google Assistant. It seems to keep getting better too. I am also amazed by how it well it handles it in noisey environments.

My husband has an iPhone X and we have actually compared Siri and the Assistant many times - the Assistant kicks Siri's a** every time, occasionally just when it comes to recognition.

I would follow what has been said - first try retraining your voice. I guess a factory reset is worth a try.

If you still have trouble, I guess it's possible you have a glitch in the hardware itself? Maybe you should contact Google and see what they can do for you.

I have a Pixel 2 XL and have no issues with Assistant at all... I would try to retrain your voice with it and if that doesn't work, maybe do a factory reset?

for some reason I find that Siri is able to pick my voice up from a further distance away. Other than that though the assistant is much more helpful and I prefer the assistant over Siri any day. I'd actually probably be using the iPhone more if I could get the assistant to be the default helper over Siri

Siri sucks in my experience, compared to Google Assistant. My wife is forever frustrated with Siri on her iPhone X. Sometimes retraining Assistant helps.

I'm not sure he's referring to the Assistant itself, but rather the mic's ability to pick up his voice.

It is true that Google Assistant needs to hear your voice more often to recognize it better. I didn't use Assistant much on past devices; but now that I have a Pixel 2, I'm trying to use it more often and I'd say it understands me 90% of the time. Mostly, my speech-to-text experience has been perfect.

I don't use a Pixel - I'm on a GS9+ - and it's been flawless for me. I've been using it for a little over a week, and it's transcribed my text messages without a single error. I'm very impressed!

Now, if I could get it to generate time-to-leave and weather notifications, I'd be all set...

I have devices with Google Assistant, Alexa and Siri all over my house, Google Assistant is the best among them followed by Alexa. I have no issues with Google Assistant listening or understanding, it's been great in general.

I think you should return to Apple.

That's so awesome that you are enjoying it! I find the Assistant to be very handy. I'm training myself to use it more. I multitask by nature so I love the ability to text my mom or boyfriend while I'm cleaning; or anything similar to that.

How are you liking your S9+, and what colour did you get? My boyfriend's brother got the lavender S9 and it's so beautiful!

I love saying, "OK Google, let's go home," then watching the phone send a WhatsApp message to my wife to let her know. It's very cool!

It's nice! I picked blue, but would've loved a red option like they have in Asia. I picked up a DeX Pad a few weeks ago when it went on sale at Best Buy and I've only used my laptop once or twice since then. Very handy!
