Only charging to 80% prevents the Magic Battery Smoke from being released. The more Magic Battery Smoke you own can, then, when needed, be traded for additional Battery life at your nearest Battery Life Emporium. Skeptical people claim that Magic Battery Smoke doesn't really exist, but my ex wife's brother's best friend's cousin told me it was true and he heard about that on the internet.

Have noticed any improvement in battery life, by using that type of feature?
I have, even before this type of feature was common and unplugging manually. Another life extending benefit not often mentioned is having this feature built in means you can basically treat the phone like a mains powered device. Once the battery hits 80% and stops charging, the phone runs strictly from the charger, reducing the amount of cycles (and thus cycle related degradation) it goes through. Great if you're a heavy user.

I've never done it with any other phone but decided to try it with the P9P. One of the reasons is it takes almost 30 more minutes to go from 80-100%, but I'm always near a charger anyway. I've just been charging to 100% when I know I'm going to be gone for a whole day, and I've been getting close to 7.5-8 hours SOT. We'll see if 80% really preserves the battery! Tesla actually recommends the same with their cars.

If you keep your phone for a long time, it is recommended to use this feature.

If you trade in every year or 2, it's not really needed.
I don't use it, but I also trade in my phones every 2 years. I've never had battery go bad during that time period.
I use charging limits on my laptops and I will probably use them on my P8P when I am able to do so . Why? On my laptops, which I would normally keep for quite a while, it keeps the battery healthier and charging more consistent over their lifetime. On a phone; I usually sell my used phones to private buyers every couple of years and a lower cycle count and better battery heath diagnostic makes the phone more valuable to more technically astute buyers.

For my use case, it would not be a big deal for me to stop charging my P8P at 80% ninety-nine percent of the time. That being said, I get why some users - particularly Pixel users - may feel that they need to charge to 100% just to get them through their daily routine.

Even if you keep your phone 3,4,5 years , does the maths stack up?

Lose 20% battery every single day for years to gain.... What? A few percent years down the line.
All you have done is swap the loss of 20% round.

Spend £1000+ . Get phone. Turn everything to max. Enjoy.
Otherwise, What's the point.

Look at it in terms of charging usage. Cut it a bit short today, or have to charge twice as often and have a phone that shuts down on you unexpectedly in a couple years because the battery is toast. You can't cheat physics and charging habits do matter.

For an extreme example, I killed a battery in about 6 months back when I thought it was good to keep it plugged in all all times and at 100% charge level.
