The way the language is stated, it seems the PVC is not yet activated but will be in November (for the 2nd developer preview) but the focus is on access and benefits to 3rd party developers. What seems to be a little lost in the language is whether the processing speed/reduced power benefits apply to the core Pixel camera app.

So my question is: When the PVC is activated, will the speed increase and power consumption decrease with the use of the native camera app when the PVC is activated?

Sorry....it's just all the write-ups about it seem to focus on the 3rd party benefits.

Yes, they discussed that when they first started talking about the chip being in the phone (around release day).

"Google's HDR+ routines will be processed using this IPU, and it runs fives times faster while using less than one-tenth of the energy than it would if it ran through the standard image processor in the Snapdragon 835."

This new batch of news is about allowing 3rd party developer access.

As I understand it, when activated, the camera functions will be done on the Pixel Visual Core instead of what's built-in on Qualcomm's SOC.

The native app will likely see a speed increase and there will probably be some power savings.

I don't think Google has stated those outright, but that's how I'm interpreting everything I'm hearing about the PVC.

Okay, cool. I remember reading the first part initially but everything else since then seems to conflate the topics.

As awesome as this camera is, anything that improves it (even if just from a performance/speed/power consumption basis) is nothing less than magical.
