Play Store app using excessive CPU?

I've been noticing for a while that the fan on my HP X360 Chromebook 14 (fully up to date on the Stable Channel, Chrome OS 81) will run constantly at a pretty high level, without me doing much at all, and without any apps running in the background. I looked at the Task Manager and sorted by CPU usage -- for some reason, the app "com.android.vending" (presumably the main Play Store app) was using >90% of CPU, even though it wasn't open, and wasn't updating anything. Once I ended that process, the fan shut off. I sent feedback to Google about this, so hopefully they fix that. Anyone else see this on their Chromebooks?

FWIW, I am running Chrome 83-beta on my Acer Spin 13 and I just ran task manager. That showed com.android.vending process using no CPU.

I am having the same problem. Asus C436, Chrome 81.0.4044.103. Happened a few times now.

If you end the process in the Task Manager, does it come back quickly, or does the problem stay away for the rest of that usage session?

Mine didn't come back right away. But it seems to happen sometimes overnight (I leave my Chromebook connected to a monitor/keyboard and always on). I can tell because the Chromebook fans turns on under CPU load.

Yeah, definitely send Google some feedback about this. Hopefully they'll fix it in an upcoming patch.
