Hi,

Starting Saturday February 3, 2018 morning I got Play Store error code 404 every time I tried to upgrade or install applications on Huawei Mate 9 Plus and P10 Plus Chinese ROM version, EMUI 8.0 / Android 8.0.
Tried clear Play Store and Google Play Services cache data+ reboot, removed Goggle account and reinstall, installed latest Play Store and Google Play Services from apkmirror.com, (on Mate 9 Plus), did a factory reset on P10 Plus, nothing working.
Everything else works just fine.

Do you know any fix on this issue?

Hello,
I also have same problem, my mobile is Mate 9. Since I updated it to Oreo EMUI 8.0 I could not login to my Google account. I solved it by using Better VPN app. Seems like mobile comes back to China..It is Chinese version btw. Anyway after VPN workaround I could access Google, but 2 days ago a new patch was released by Huawei and I did it innocently. Now I would have to update 25 apps on Play Store and just Chrome and Uber updated. Really strange. I do not recommend update your Nougat to Oreo if Chinese mobile version. If someone solved it, please share.

If factory reset did not solve..nothing will solve. Do you mean your mobile returned to Nougat?

Hi there,

I also had the same problem. Then I have got in to mistake by installing the gms core package; this installation have asked to uninstalled all of my previously loaded google apps. GMS core used to install the google play store that worked. So I just approved relying on my previous experience. But this time the installation only deleted other google apps and insisted on deleting the "Play services" I also approved that, but the process just got stuck at that step. To sum up GMS core apk have no use

I have the exact same issue on my Mate 9(Chinese model). After the EMUI update to 8.0, I cannot download or update any app on Google Play Store.

Unbelievable... I also have the same Problem but starts at 05.02.2018, but I already used the Emui 8 in January. I use it in Switzerland.
I did also everything possible, at least I completely reset the phone, and use again the GMS Installer - Download the Google Play Store from a Mirror... but still not work. allways Error 404.

I think something is "broken" or "someone" do not let us use the Chinese version...
Also Skytone not work anymore if i not have a Chinese ID....

... if someone know the reason, i will be allso happy about.
If i Find the sollution, i will post it here.

Same problem started 1~2 days ago. I am using a China-bought version of Mate 10 pro. I have contacted Huawei Overseas and Huawei China and Google. They have noted the issue down and hope they can provide a solution sooner than later.

I heard the Xiaomi phones are facing similar problems. Since there is no major update during this period. I suspect there is a security policy change in Google, or worse, the phone configuration is modified silently due to some policy change in China.

You may want to refer to the solution on this forum:

Hi guys,

I have had same issues on mate 9 since Saturday, 3rd of Feb. It seems there are some issues between Google and Android powered phone/system (EMUI) providers where Google would block any updates/installation if those providers do not comply with Google's terms/requirements.(maybe be monetary wise.)

It has nothing to do with Chinese version of the handsets.

I guess we can't do anything but have to wait sadly.

YX

Same problem happened yesterday 4/2/2018...try many video 8n YouTube.. Try to download that app files.. Nothing... But I don't understand why aptoide instead of Google play store works for certain apps... Hope some smart brain(Chinese) came out with solutions.. Thanks a lot guys

Hi! I had same problem and I solved!! I rooted my phone and deleted a file at \system\emui\china\etc\permission called services.cn.google.xml
If your phone is not a Huawei probably this file is located at /system/etc/permissions

Hope this help you :)

As a workaround, download an APP called apkpure.
Install the .apk ... its like a apkmirror but it updates automatically like play store.

I installed the new version of the Google Play Store (Version: 8.8.12-all [0] [PR] 182623210 (80881200) / Updated: February 2, 2018); no more 404 error, but it keeps on "Downloading..."
so, the clever Google "solved" the 404 issue!

I think the problem is from the site: services googleapis cn

all Chinese phones have to go thru this site to download apps from Google Play store.
and now this site returns 404

How to root Huawei Mate 9?

Permasalahan yang sama saya alami dengan mate 9 saya, setelah diupgrade ke os 8, google play tidak mau di perbaharui, kode 404.

Not sure if it helps.. I have a mate 10 pro and mine is working fine. But I did notice the january security updated last friday night saturday morning.. So maybe check if that has happened for you and maybe that has something to do with it.. If not.. sorry for wasting peoples time

The same has been happening to me on my huawei mate 10 pro purchased from China. However the little research I've done on google says it's a problem for Google to sort out and the only temporary fix is rooting and deleting a file in the etc folder. Rooting voids warranty so my way around this was to find a good VPN. I did download ORBOT and configured play store plus google service framework to access internet via ORBOT. Try it out. Search for the ORBOT app from apkmirror.com

Thanks for the info! My question: How can I root my Mate 9 pro Chinese Version EMUI8.0? My Mate 9pro has the same issues. I have tried to root my phone, but without success!
