We’ve made some great new improvements which you’ll find in today’s Play Store updates for Motorola Assist.

  • Love talk-to-me while you’re driving? You can now enjoy this feature at home too. Spend more time with your friends and family without having to look at your phone. If someone calls or texts, Assist will let you know by announcing them hands-free.
  • We’ve made some improvements to driving detection so expect this feature to work more quickly and more reliably.
  • As always, we’ve been squashing some bugs. RIP.

Stay tuned for more exciting releases from Motorola!

PS. To see these new features, please remember to accept last week’s update to Motorola Contextual Services if you haven’t already.

OK I did the update and now have home mode. Two things though....1. I have my location setting at device only and want to keep it that way for battery conservation. 2. I don't always want my messages read out loud for my son and husband to hear. Both think it is funny to hijack my phone and get it to read stuff. So for now I am going to pass on using it.

So how do I turn it on? So far I only see a driving option.

Lol. Hmmm. I don't have that yet even though I updated. I'll try a power cycle.

Lol at phone hijacking. What a fun idea :)

I'm thinking I would only turn it on when cooking or doing laundry.

Assist Update - Home Mode

I got the Assist Update last night, and enabled the new Home mode. Once you set your home location, when you are at home it will read your texts aloud and announce callers when the phone rings - kind of like Drive mode, but at home. This is pretty great, except for one thing. It woke me up at 6 AM to read me a text from my bank, even though the phone was in silent mode. Not what I had in mind!

I use Tasker for that rather than the Moto Assist Sleep, because my sleep hours are irregular. I have it set up so that it goes into silent mode between certain hours at night only if my phone is plugged into the charger -- that way it is not triggered too soon if I am up extra late, and it goes back to regular mode as soon as I unplug the phone when I get up in the morning, no matter what time it is.

It's quite a drag if Home mode is going to wake me up for texts in the night. I also wonder what is going to happen if the phone rings in the night. Obviously I'd like it to announce who is calling if it's someone on my allowed-to-call-at-night list, and to NOT announce if they are not, but I have a sneaking suspicion it will announce all of them. Will have to test it.

Anyone got the Assist update and using the Assist Sleep mode? How is that working at night?
