Play Store Not Updating Apps Even Though Auto-Update Enabled

Very weird. When I go into the "My apps" section of the Play Store I'm finding I have 20-40 apps waiting to be updated. Once I click "update now" they all update. But I have auto update over both wifi and cellular network enabled so this should be happening automatically, right?

Any ideas about how to get this working properly?

I get the same notification but then it will auto update soon after. I tend to wake up to a notification saying something like, 8 app updates available and another notification underneath saying 8 apps updated

Any idea how long they've been waiting to be updated? I think the Play Store tends to auto-update in batches, so it might wait for a certain interval.

Also, any power-saving modes turned on, or 3rd party battery-saver or "RAM booster" apps installed? If so, those could be preventing the phone from updating while asleep.
