Played with an LG v30 today

I'm not a good reviewer fredsyttt but I will say the camera reminded me of the g6. It felt very fast. If the v30, v30 and g6 were offered and I had to choose one it would be the v30 no doubt. I just wish I was good at talking about the phone other than the audio was good and I can't tell the difference because that's not my passion. The display was on point and had inky blacks similar to the galaxies. The floating screen thing reminds me of the edge panel on the galaxies only a lot smaller and movable. I can easily drag it around and scroll through the different "pages". I think the phone itself was the easiest to hold of all the phones, even the g6. It didn't have the thick sides liked the g6.

Any light bleeding or hot spots on the display. A good few articles have that as a down side and Korea customers complaining. Maybe I'll stick with Note 8. Samsung has their display thing down!

Didn't see any light bleed. I didn't know you could get light bleed on something non lcd.

While those hotspots appear disturbing in those photos, we don't use our phones they way they were tested. Didn't see any light bleed.

I don't normally read threads of this length, but this one interested me. I've been following the LG V30 as the number one contender for the phone that might replace my current daily driver: a Microsoft Lumia 950 XL. The V30 ticks all my boxes, thus far.
In order to truly take advantage of a Quad DAC of that quality is with a lossless music file (that you won't get from Google Play Music) and a decent pair of headphones. I currently use Groove Music (no, not lossless) and my M50x's got stolen so I was forced to buy a cheap pair of Ncredible's which aren't terrible but they're not my M50x's. I'll probably honestly end up getting another pair of those when I can haha. Also Beats are definitely not worth the price. They don't even sound as good as a decent pair of headphones that cost half the price. Way too much bass.

The M50X most likey won't take full of the Quad DAC because it's impedance is just under 50ohms and might not trigger the high impedance mode. That's why I bought the MSR7NC. They aren't high impedance unless you activate the noise cancelation prior to plugging them in, but they sound really great and with NC active you don't notice any change in sound signature. You could also turn NC off after you have activated high impedance mode and it stays in that mode.

This is an interesting discussion as I've been wondering how much difference there is in quality on using a streaming service like Spotify on the V20/V30 compared to my Note 4. The consensus here seems to be there isn't a difference and that you need to have high quality locally stored files but there's in interest in that for me as I've a high quality audio player already for that purpose.

You have bigger difference with Lossless files, however I notice a difference with lower quality bitrate files. I try not to listen to anything under 300. If have real bad file it might actually sound worse

For those looking for a less expensive but great sounding cans that can take full advantage of the LG V30 Quad DAC I highly recommend the Sony MDR-7506. Jerry recommended them back when the V10 came out and I purchased them specifically for it and I couldn't be more happy with them. Only $80 at Amazon and Impedance at 63 Ohms, sound is very neutral not bass heavy just clean.

What about the normal MSR7's? I've been looking at them but I listen to predominantly classic rock and I need something that favors that signature.

Great suggestion, $80 for the 7506's is a great value. Also the MDR V600 are ones to keep in mind. Iconic look, flawed design. Very good cans but they will break. I think I like your suggestion better though, the 7506's will hold up better.

My favs are the HD25's but they will run you $200. It doesn't get any more neutral then them

I'm using those with my V20.

So just curious, are expensive game headsets pretty much worthless for listening to music? Obviously 7.1 surround doesnt mean anything in regards to music but does the Sony Platinum Headsets provide at least better quality than regular ol $50 headsets?
