Well I think when Google releases KitKat and the Nexus 5 phone they are going to announce some more Chromecast support. On the PlayOn.TV site it says Chromecast support coming soon. Both PlayOn and Aereo require a monthly subscription. PlayOn looks to add a lot of TV channels (60+) but you must have subscription to Netflix, HuluPlus and others. Aereo is only in a few major TV markets but is adding new TV markets fast. Aereo basically rents you two HDTV Antennas that pick up local over the air TV channels like CBS, ABC, NBC, Fox and PBS plus more with live TV. Aereo cost $8 a month for live TV but also adds a cloud based DVR for recording shows as you watch one show live.

PlayOn is just a Browser that will stream video from their partner sites like ESPN and Aereo. PlayOn will be good till all the sites have direct Chromecast support. To me PlayOn is just a bridge till more support shows up for Chromecast. For me PlayOn adds ESPN that I have service from my cable provider so I hope it gives me ESPN3 streaming support through my Chromecast to watch college football from ESPN3 (WatchESPN App). Anyway PlayOn supports Aereo TV so you can get live TV, provided you are in a city that Aereo supports local TV that streams to your Chromecast via PlayOn. This is the PlayOn site statement that Chromecast support coming soon.

Re: PlayOn TV support for Chomecast coming soon that adds Aereo TV plus 60+ channels

Wait, how's this different from just using Chrome and loading up these websites and casting the tab?

This statement from Tom's Guide hints that Aereo will add Android support very soon so you could also see it on Tablets and Smart phones and hopefully Chromecast without PlayOn would be nice;

If you want to watch Aereo on an Android device without streaming through PlayOn, you're out of luck until later this month when Aereo implements that functionality.

For ESPN3 (AKA WatchESPN App) it won't work via the PC's Chrome Browser streaming ESPN to Chromecast. ESPN3 creates a separate pop up window with the game that Chrome won't stream to the Chromecast. With WatchESPN all I see is my first Chrome Browser screen not the pop up screen with the game on my HDTV.

As I said I see PlayOn as a bridge solution till more Chromecast support is a direct App that supports Chromecast.

I had that problem with a tennis match. Once I switched into the Windows 8 Metro screen and used the Chrome app I was able to cast it from there. There is another thread in here about this and someone else also found another way....

Right click the "pop up" window and select to launch in another tab. Then you can cast from that tab
