Last week my PlayStore app vanished from my Nexus 7. No update to the device was made, but it was still running KitKat(!). The app vanished from the apps list entirely. I do mean, entirely gone... it's not hidden, it's simply not there.
Now I get alerts telling me apps 'won't run without Google Play Services, which are not supported by your device' (even though, as an example, I can see the video running in the background of the youtube app, whilst this message is displayed!) I try to re-install google play services, but it's already insttalled and if I visit the PlayStore via a browser it tells me my device is supported. It's like a merry-go-round of nonsense.
I've trawled through forums with plenty of answers of how to resolve and none of them fit the bill. I updated Android to latest version with no joy. I am loathe to factory reset, which is a last resort I feel... but can anyone explain how / why this has occurred and offer any other possible fixes to get back PlayStore app and get playstore services running properly again? It's plenty annoying.
