Please Explain 14 nm FinFet

It's a bit early as far as the SD 820 is concerned, but since Samsung phones already make use of the technology, can someone explain to me its benefits? Is there a discernable difference in performance or efficiency on a phone that employs it?

I'm not concerned about the 810 overheating at this point, but would it be worth waiting for an 820 powered device to reap any possible benefits in speed or battery life?
