Hey everyone. I have had the orig. moto droid for 2 years now and now I have been planning to purchase the nexus when it comes available. But I have a friend who's whole world revolves around apple and his integration is just unbelievable. He connects his iphone in his car for music then gets home and it wirelessly links and begins playing it wirelessly through his home stereo system throughout his home. He can print wirelessly from anywhere and everything he does on his phone is updated on his other computers.
Now, as i'm sure it is very obvious, I know nothing about system integrations and capabilities. What I am trying to find out is, is the nexus capable of integrating into my car and home stereo as easily as the iphone is? And if so, can someone explain how?
I am wanting to play pandora, as well as other songs on my phone, through my home stereo, as well as my car. I'm sure there are ways to do it, but I am wanting to find out if it can be as easy as the iphone. (ie. wireless, dock...)
I don't really care for apple...but at the same time, if it's the only way to make things work then I might have to go that route.
Please help me from going apple...
thank you for your help

There are many way this could be set up, most of which your droid can do.

Bluetooth - most new cars and new car stereos have this built in now, as well as home stereo systems, if they don't you can usually get a Bluetooth adapter and make it work.

Network - a WiFi or Network stereo system will also do this, basically it will let you stream music and media from any device on your network (Smart Phone and PC)

Both systems your Droid can do now and so will the new Gnex.

P.S.
You can give this a try,
Google chrome to phone http://www.appbrain.com/app/google-chrome-to-phone/com.google.android.apps.chrometophone. (you can use that now also)

Printing app (I have never tried this, so i don't know how well it works)
Google Cloud print - https://market.android.com/details?...wsMSwxLDEsImNvbS5wYXVsb3NsZi5jbG91ZHByaW50Il0.

google cloud print works amazingly well!

I also use google music + bluetooth and I have all my music collection in my car.

Thanks for your help.
I'm not looking to buy a new stereo system. I'm looking to see if there is something comparable to the apple tv and airplay.

Apple has the advantage of uni-brand integration over Android. However, the one thing Android has is openness- and it works.

For example, in order to view music, pictures, videos and more on your TV, you can use any XBOX 360, Wii, or PS3. If you do not have one of these, any DLNA enabled device will do it as well. Here are the apps I recommedn:

- Double Twist Air Sync (for everything wireless if you have PS3, XBOX or Wii, as well as any other DLNA equipped devide)
- Skifta (for the same thing, exept this one is in BETA.)

The advantage Android has is that you don't need to buy an Apple TV for $100 to get this capability. Sure, it doesn't do wireless mirroring, but it will transfer the data you want, such as music, pictures, movies, and presentations.

For your printing, the are also several apps that, after initial setup, will make wireless printing as easy as on AirPrint:

- HP ePrint
- Google Cloud print
- Cloud Print (non-google)
- Many, many, MANY others.

Remember, the strength of Android is UNPARALLELED because of the power of it's applications. While iOS has a greater number of applications, there are literally almost ZERO that will add true functionality to the device you own simply because Apple does not allow it so. Media sharing on Android works through a series of Apps, and they work well. All you need to do is go to the market and discover the applications you need. Android is far more powerful than anyone believes because of this reason. The things I have discovered that Android can do out of the box with apps in the last two months have schocked me. You will find what you need, especially on a Nexus device, and you won't have to spend extra money to do it (aka Apple TV at $100).

It won't be as easy as spending $100 (lol...) but it is there.

I'd show you bluetooth in the car, but.... my car doesn't support it. It has the proper A2DP bluetooth chip, but the software doesn't support it :/ (Supposedly, a software update will fix that... I'm not holding my breath). If my girlfriend lets me, I'll record it working in her car, which does support the feature. Pandora, youtube... pretty much all audio will export to the car. I can show you on a Jambox if you want and give you the gist of how it all works. As far as media streaming and printing... I got you covered:

Streaming audio/video/photos to TV

Wireless Printing on android (cheap HP printer from Walmart, cost ~$100)

There's a variety of ways of doing this.

iOS devices simply have a year lead and customer demand, so car companies have listened and built in the ability to use them directly (via cable) for about 4 years now. If you have a car stereo or home theater receiver that uses such a dock, then you can buy a conversion cable from CableJive.com (called the DockBoss) that will allow any headphone jack equipped sound source to play through an iOS connector.

If you have a Bluetooth equipped stereo, simply use Bluetooth to stream audio. I'm not sure about video though. I would assume that you can stream a A/V stream just like audio.

Thank you for your help. Any other ideas?
Yes, Google has Google TV.

I recently purchased the Logitech Revue with Google TV and it works great. I use it for Pandora, YouTube, Netflix and general browsing. The only thing it doesn't seem to do is multitask. For example, if I have Pandora open on the browser it wont continue playing while I use another browser tab. (Though it might continue to play if I use the Pandora app. I'm not sure if I tried that.)

You can pair your phone with it as well, but I have not tried this myself. I use Pandora in my car using Bluetooth and my Palm Pre Plus phone. It works great. I'll try pairing my phone with my Logitech Revue sometime this week. I really don't see why it wouldn't work. The process is no different than using the phone in the car.

I can't comment on computer integration other than I mostly use cloud based services like Gmail and Google Docs.

You'll likely want to check out the app PrintShare, cost abut $13, it can allow printing wirelessly to bluetooth and wifi printer and using google services too.

Google

For music, I personally prefer connecting a wire directly, save battery and best sound quality. But you might want to ask experts on the topic of network stereo/speakers.

Wireless audio playing is broad and applies to all other phones that has bluetooth and wifi, I'm not keen on it, but you can try asking in a place who have expertise on this, like audio forums or just the general section where more people notice it. Or your local music shop which they'll try to sell you their products. I imagine you would have a car and home stereo that support bluetooth. But bluetooth signal fade over distant which effect sound quality, for home, wifi or network stereo might work better, but I know nothing about it, still prefer using wires for best sound quality (and battery life).

For printing, PrintShare is a good app that can support bluetooth and wifi printers, and Google Docs and Cloud Print. It works surprisingly well.

For other integration, your gmail account sync your emails, contacts, Maps favorites, purchased app, etc. These will be available in any device when once you login and enable syncing.

FYI on a couple Google TV items I was unsure about. First, I wasn't able to connect my Palm Pre to it with Bluetooth. It looks like it will work with Android and IOS so it must be done with an app. Maybe I'll test it with my wife's phone, but it shouldn't be a problem for the GN. Also, you can use the browser while using the Pandora app and Pandora will continue to play. But if you want to use Pandora in the browser, it will pause if you go to a new tab. Hope that clears things up.
