Hello all, I feel bad having my first post be a cry for help but the people on this forum seem quite knowledgeable and friendly. I found a few related threads but thought it might be best to create a thread specific to my problem.

Over that last 8 weeks or so Ive been missing incoming texts and people have not been receiving all of my outgoing texts. Both intermittently. Yesterday I pulled battery out and when I replaced it and turned on phone, I received some 20 odd text messages, although after calling some people, I came to find out that its not all of the missing texts just a random selection :'( I can't be certain whether I got the backlog of texts because of reboot or if it was just coincidence. I'm not in a roaming situation.

A while back I was getting the error message about "the application sprint messaging widget(process.com sprint:messaging widget has stopped unexpectedly" I uninstalled and reinstalled both the stock messaging app and handcent, and I may have uninstalled the sprint messaging widget(I don't recall :( ) Things seemed to be working ok for some period of time after so I don't know if the two issues are related.

I assumed sprint would be of no help but I called the my local store today and asked the guy if it would be worth it to stop in. He basically told me they'd be charging me to have it looked at and an additional charge if repair was needed. About what I expected :( My first instinct was to try settings>privacy>factory data reset, or Home+volume down+power. I'm not sure what the ramifications of that might be though, so I figured it might be best to check here first. Hoping the wise saints of this board can help me.

Btw Im not rooted or using any mods. I was considering it to get my hotspot back, and I'd be willing to to try something if it will resolve my current issue.

Thank you.

That is a tough one. One thought would be to use titanium backup to back up your apps and data (if you care about them), then do a factory reset of the phone. I think you have to be rooted to use TB, but the one-click rooting program makesit really easy to root and unroot.

After the reset, check to see if SMS is working normally (though it sounds like its hard to reproduce if it only happens intermittently). Then use TB to reinstall apps and data.

I would consider just dumping apps and data altogether though. Just doing a factory refresh might fix the the problem, and reinstalling old data might bring it back... you can always redownload apps from the market, including paid apps.

Good luck!

I don't care about any of the data on the phone so I'll just skip the root/TB I suppose. If I do the factory reset, will I have to then get the phone reactivated? in store? Does it matter whether I use the settings>privacy>reset, or the home+volume down+power method?

You can try to clear your cache/data before doing a full factory reset. I did this with my gmail and it seemed to help with the server issues. Honestly though, it sounds like a Sprint issue. Have you tried calling customer service?

This is a good idea. Also try updating your sprint data profile before doing the factory reset. I'm not familiar with resetting via the other method, but your phone's ESN id will still be intact, so the phone shouldn't need any reactivating.
