Please help- showing content off text

I have a htc m9 and i would like to know how can i just see the persons name when i recieve a tex from them rather than the message and content of text please help me

Are you talking about in your notification on the lock screen?

If your phone is unlocked, as far as I know, all you can do is limit the amount of text shown in the notification bar. Go to: Messages > Settings > General. Then where it says message preview, you can choose whether to show 1, 2 or 3 lines of text.

If you want to limit what is shown when your phone is locked, go to: Settings > Sound & Notification. Scroll down to the Notification section. You can see where it says 'when device is locked' and from there you can choose to hide sensitive notification content. Then you can go ahead and choose what is 'sensitive' material (in your case, text messages). Go back to the notification section and it has a sub section labelled 'app notifications' enter this and scroll down to the messages app. Turn 'Sensitive' on and this should hide content from the messages.

thank you it has, i dont want any lines of the message shown, it only has 1 2 or 3 as you said is there away i can still see the name of the person who has texted me without it being hidden content

Unfortunately, I think those are the only options available on the preloaded version of the messages app. There is probably a different messaging app somewhere that has more options. You could try downloading one of those and using that instead?

I use Handcent! I have a different colored envelope pop up for each person plus you can have a different notification sound for each person.

thank you it has, i dont want any lines of the message shown, it only has 1 2 or 3 as you said is there away i can still see the name of the person who has texted me without it being hidden content

Quick question about Handcent. Will it light the phone up when locked for new texts?

Mine lights up when I get a new text just the green like a regular notification. It has an option for colored but HTC phones don't do colored notifications. I just like if I glance at my phone at work and see a certain red envelope i know it's my husband and it's easy to know who it's from that way. But I also have a different notification for everyone also just haven't put my ringtones and notifications on this phone yet.

Sorry, I guys I wasn't clear. I meant a setting for the display to light up like in iOS.
