Odds seem to be that Pokemon would win, it's certainly alive and kicking here at AC.

Not really understanding the question, I would have to say Godzilla would win. Maybe not the latest chubby Godzilla, but the good ones of yore.

No question, just an off the cuff statement about the many posts & articles here about Pokeman. It seems to have taken on a life of it's own here at AC and won't die.

Have you been in the world outside lately?!!! It's not just AC... it's everywhere! Pokemon Go IS huge, whether we like it or not. And with such a popular game just being released, people will have opinions, questions, desire to share their Pokemon, etc. The fact that it's not yet available everywhere and that the huge deman has made the game's servers go nuts will only make it worse during the next few weeks until things stabilize. Then the fad will die over.

And then we keep dreaming and Nintendo will shock us with a Zelda game for mobile and then the universe will implode. Yup.

PS: This can show you just how popular the game has become in less than a week. To put things in comparison, Apple's stock rose 16% in the first month after the first iPhone was released. MONTH. Obviously the iPhone meant a 64% rise for Apple in the first six months in the end, but still, Ninty's feat is nothing short of impressive. Whether or not they can keep it up, it's yet to be seen.

Out in the world??? Of course I am, and probably much more than others. But my world doesn't include keeping up with games. I get it that AC will publish some articles about a game, but to the extent that they have seems a bit much, and I could point out several other Android based websites that don't have nearly as many article as AC. I'm sure there's more appropriate gaming sites to discuss Pokeman. All I'm saying is that it feels like it's a bit much. And that's only my opinion.

I get it, I do (and it overwhelms me too, especially after having tried the game and not really getting all the hype IMHO). But you can't help but to notice that A LOT of people are out there using it. It's quite distinctive. I went hiking yesterday and at least 5 people along the trail were doing so with their phones out scouting for Pokemon along the river and forest area. One kid was even cursing because he didn't have enough signal strength to reach the pokemon he wanted. It's crazy. And all you have to do is read the crazy stories about people getting lured and mugged, funny situations, not-so-funny ones, etc. arising from people trying to get their Pokemons in weird places or at weird hours.

And one of the reasons AC is covering it (besides the obvious...they ARE a blog and they need to write about what people want to read right now, and right now people want their Pokemans!) is that the game is developed by Google's Niantic Inc.

But I get what you mean... sometimes too much is TOO MUCH haha. Just read the comments on the latest non-Pokemon-related article hehe

I agree, the number of Pokémon articles here in recent days is crazy. Feels like: Pokémon Central! :(

I understand the need to cover the topic due to its popularity but this is way beyond even a major flagship release and comes across as SEO (Search Engine Optimization) of trying to attract/drive traffic to the site:

Thought AC was better than this! Very disappointed in the higher up(s) who approved it! :(

I've seen more Pokémon Go posts on AC homepage today than even the standard flurry of posts following a major Google or Samsung release event. There seem to be more articles today about a not-exclusively-Android app on the Android Central homepage than articles actually about Android.

Perhaps it's is due to the fact that this thing has made more on an impact in a blink of an eye on popular culture than any release even Samsung or Google or Apple ever had?

Ride it out.. the thing will settle down.

I can't wait to download the app on my phone!!!!!!!!

... Granted, I've been a fan since I was eleven. Anyone who's just jumping on the bandwagon is different. ;) But yes, like any fad, this will soon die down.

Now if y'all will excuse me, I got to play my DS and get my eighth Johto badge (for about the fifth time).

How does that justify it taking over the site? How many other trending topics get this much "coverage"?

Calling this just a 'trending topic" is a bit of an understatement. It's a unique situation... this sort of single track obsession isn't all that common these days... back in the day you had things take over everything, from games to TV shows... Now? With 10 million entertainment options, if something gets even a little bit of attention, it makes news. This game has, for all intents and purposes, not only taken over the entire mobile space (well, sorry windows mobile users), but I see articles about it on sports blogs, food blogs, general news, etc.

I mean, right now it's pretty dead in the mobile space. Everyone's waiting on Apple, Samsung and Google to release their new stuff, which won't be for a month at the least. So everyone's scraping by on leaks, minor device releases and deals on Amazon. There's not much meat on that bone, so having something THIS big dominate, it is to be expected.

Like I said... ride it out. The volume will fade and things will get back to normal soon enough.

Moving this over to the main discussion thread Phil opened to explain why you see so many Go articles.
