AndroidCentral, our favorite website, posted an interesting article about world market share for the several platform OS's. It stated that Android would be second place in market share by 2011, while iPhone would start to fall.

I hypothesized that the only reason Apple's iPhone would fall would be because they do not release on every network. However, I think that if Apple released the iPhone on every network, they could grasp the second place spot instead of Android, and Android would fall. In fact, I think that some of us here, perhaps as many as half of us here, would switch to an iPhone if it was available on other networks other than ATT.

I would like to know what YOU think in the comments: DO you think that iPhone would overtake Android if it was available in other networks? Or do you believe that the Android line can win the battle of market share over iOS?

It really doesn't matter to me since I will probably be returning to webOS when they release a new device on Sprint, but hey, I like this stuff!

Poll Question:

Would you purchase an iOS device instead of Android? Or Android over iOS? Also, what do you think, if Apple releases phones on every network, will iOS gain the market share or will Android still deliver a win?

I love both and I am always torn between the 2 OS's. So far the best android phone I have used has been the nexus one.

Before I bought the Droid Incredible, it was trying to wait out the iPhone to Verizon thing (I had bad past experience with at&t). But now with Android, there seems to be so much you can do with the phone and just little things (like notifications and info on the lock screen) seems to be better. Yeah the agrument that the iPhone "just works" and while that may be true, it doesn't "just work" the way I want it too. I like having custom options, even if I don't use them, I like knowing that they are there and that I'm not locked down.

I agree. I think people on other carriers are just settling with Android til the Iphone comes around to them. I use my mom as an average consumer since we phone nerds are too educated. haha. She has an Android phone, but the day the Iphone comes to Sprint, she's ditching Android.

People don't even know what Android is. They're not purposely buying Android phones. Most people with Android phones probably don't even know what Android is. I hear people call their phones "Google Phones." And it doesn't help when Android doesn't have a unified look.

Until people actually know what Android is, it will never overtake iOS. And shortly after the Iphone comes onto other carriers in the US, Android's market share will start reversing.

But for me, i might go to WP7. It's the perfect combination between Android and iOS. The only thing i would miss on Android is the customization. I love my multiple home screens that WP7 doesn't have.

And it's been working and looking the same exact way for 4 years now...in other words, it's getting boring? I mean, lets face it, over the years, the iPhone stayed the same with the yearly addition of features that other smart phones had for years. Now they made it ugly and flat looking, with a questionable antenna design, and a very pretty, but also relatively small screen, at least compared to the latest crop of smart phones.

I wonder if Apple will ever change the form factor and screen size. I just don't know how much longer then can just keep adding a few new things here and there and call it a new phone? The iPhone is losing, or already has lost its exclusivity. Every Tom, ****, and Harry has one, and that will just get worse if and when it goes to Verizon and other carriers. Remember when the Razr was cool? It eventually got surpassed by newer and better reinventions of itself and finally faded away into obscurity. I doubt Apple will let that happen, but, to avoid that, they have to start giving people more variety, and I don't just mean having different models with the only distinguishing factor being how much onboard memory each model has.

I have long been cured of iPhone envy, Android and WP7 are much more intriguing platforms to me with a bright future and undoubtley ever increasing developer support. Add to that the great leaps in hardware innovation without the limiting form factor and once a year update the iPhone is limited to, and I am definitely giving the nod to Android for the marketshare, but also think that WP7 will be a huge player too.
