I'm on my second thunderbolt, and both times some of that coating chipped off. It looked quite crappy so I just removed it all.

What I don't understand is why is it there in the first place? It looks way better with the silver, shinier metal that lies underneath!!

Both sides of my kickstand show the wear that you mention. Seems like a pretty common problem and has happened to me on multiple TB's.

I agree with you that the finish underneath is much more appealing.

Looks like it's been an issue for some from as little as a few months after the phone's release (do a forum search for the word peeling). It's some kind of protective coating that can wear off (or it's for aesthetic reasons). Mine only has a slight bit worn off the tip like this post here. Doesn't bother me as it's barely noticeable. If it got worse I was prepared to scrub off the rest, but it never did. Actually, from seeing pix of it scrubbed and shiny, I prefer how it looks with the coating. :)

Used my fingernails for a few weeks, got all mine off.
Then, of course, a week later I cracked my screen and got an asurion replacement.
That one came with it all polished off. It looks nice!

I got one on launch day and it started peeling immediately, there were threads on here as soon as the phone launched.

When I used mine, I picked it off after it started peeling. Took about 4 months to completely come off the front of the kick stand. In my opinion it looks better without it.

Same here. I actually have a second bolt that I took the housing apart and repainted it all black with a shiny kickstand. Looks much better, kinda like the incredible. This phone is very easy to take apart. Now I just have to replace the LCD.

Ok, so it wasn't just me not taking care of it properly. To get it off I used my nail and my car key. Didn't scratch the surface underneath either!
