I don't use any of these. I'm curious as to what these apps do. Is Tasker a task manager? I thought those were unnecessary after Froyo.

No...Tasker is not the old task manager that your thinking of.
It is a Android Automation design tool to make your phone do things that it doesnt normally do.

To elaborate a bit more ... Tasker is an App that will allow you to set certain tasks based on rules that you tell it ... For example ... You can set your phone to automatically turn off phone ... turn on wifi and switch scenes once your at work ( tasker uses GPS to determine location ) or you can have your phone go into CAR mode automatically when your in your car ( determined by speed) There are many other uses also.
