Poor volume control with my Alpine head unit

All three of my Samsung phones, including my current S20, have experienced this issue with my Alpine ILX-F259 head unit. While I can crank out music at ear-splitting levels, and three cars over could hear my podcasts, conducting a phone call is an entirely different matter. Incoming volume control maxes out at 11 on a scale that otherwise goes nearly to 30. And therefore, it is very difficult to conduct conversations; I often need to pull over so as to hear my party over engine noise.

An update from mid-2020 did not address this. I would like to know if anyone else has experienced this problem, and more important, found a solution.

It sounds like a poorly designed head unit. Any audio device should always put out more audio than any person with normal hearing would want - volume controls are to turn the volume down.
