Pop up ads

I am receiving full screen pop up ads from time to time, mostly for Instagram and Progressive Insurance. Given the nature of the ads, I do not believe that I have malware on my phone (Pixel 2 XL). Is there any way to stop these from appearing? It leaves me considering swapping out for an iPhone.

Android itself does not have ads of any nature. Any ad you see definitely comes from an app that is installed. You'll have to find out which one.

Here's a list of apps with known aggressive ads. If you don't have those, you'll have to do a trial and error on the apps you have.

I also heard about this in the AC podcast: https://www.theverge.com/2018/9/19/17877970/xiaomi-ads-settings-menu-android-phones. Man, that would just not be worth it to me.

Wow. Well you pay for what you get. Xiaomi undercuts other manufacturers by selling cheap. They gotta make money somehow.
