I'm wondering if there is a way to force Google maps audio through the phone speaker instead of the car speakers, but still have the nice big map show up on the car.

When listening to the news or books on tape.. Or anything I can't hear it at all because the maps navigation overpowers it.

Oftentimes I don't need the voice directions yet I want Maps running. During those times I mute Maps voice. I'm not sure if this applies to your situations.

Are you running Android Auto (Maps running on the car head unit)? If so, run Maps on the phone and listen to the phone. The sync should be close enough that you'll be making all the right turns at the right times. (Even Magellan and Maps sync pretty closely, and they're totally different software.)

That's, uh, not really going to work. (And means more messing with your phone in the car, which is exactly what we *don't* want to happen here.)

Best advice in this case is to just mute the voice guidance, like the good uncle said above.
