Hey guys. I am totally new to android and wanting to get onto the latest version, ie jellybean. Before I try anything, I just would like to know if there are any draw backs, or even if it possible, since I have it through a plan with Virgin in Australia. I read something about not being able to access mobile data but I am not sure...
I havent felt this out of depth in regards to technology in ages so I hope I dont come across as a moron.

You shouldn't have any issues as long as you do everything correctly. And any issues that you have post update, will probably be determined by if its a) Official update b) stability if it is a 3rd party rom c) any compatibility issues with apps.

I flashed JB onto my phone a few days ago and yesterday again after it was released and I have the GSM version. Haven't seen any problems, even with any apps.

Just make sure you always have a backup through nandroid or whatnot before you try anything.

(Updating or flashing usually consists of doing a factory reset and wiping the phone caches, so you will lose that information unless you've made a backup).

You don't have to root to switch to yakju/takju and have stock 4.1. You only have to root if you want to switch to a custom ROM.

It'll wipe your device when you do it the first time, but it won't mess anything with your data... Everyone else is using 4.1 just fine.
