Ok, so lets see what everyone has available because I'm a little confused...

In running services I have

Avail:21MB+73MB in 12 Other: 51MB in 3

When I go to the advanced task killer I have

Available Memory: 40M

So....what am I to make of this? What are you all seeing on yours? 40m seems like so little considering we're supposed to have 256 right? What's eating all this memory? Anyway to figure it out?

Also, I've noticed in the advanced task killer that Apps open automatically all the time (even apps that I don't use) and they can bring my avail down to like 30M.

I'm not experiencing any slowdown and I'm sure I'm just being paranoid because the storm 1 tainted me.

I'm using TaskKiller....and my available is anywhere from 50 to 113M.....depending on how long ago I used it.

I find things like messaging etc do open without my influence...

the android OS is capable of closing apps on its own (which is why there is no way to manually close an app built into the os) so it's not as much of an issue as it was on blackberry's since it can just close things that you haven't used in a while when it needs more memory.

but it's nice to have a task killer app to manually force some memory to be cleared when you feel like it's not running at its best

I have 93 after task kill and after 3 days and no bat pull my storm 1 would have started on fire by now.

Ha Ha isn't it refreshing?! I had Storm 1 as well. I am coming off three years of being with BlackBerry and love how i can just USE this phone. Install an app here try it out uninstall try another one, no battery pull no reboot needed. and the phone just stays FAST the whole time. love it!

oh man, i totally forgot about the reboot after uninstalling stuff.

it felt like i was in windows 95 or something. install driver? reboot. uninstall program? reboot. sneeze near keyboard? wipe with cloth and reboot.

so nice. :)

lol. just to tease sooks -
166 free...on a hero :D

In all honesty, I imagine the droid will run with very little lag down to about 20ish free memory. gpu takes A LOT of load off the cpu, so less read/writes to system memory. Hero starts to bog down at @30, with sense and a buttload of widgets running
