Power button broke...Can I still root/rom hack?

First post! First question!...I searched and didn't come up with anything....My OV works just fine...I accidentally left it in my pants and started the washer...Got it out quick and its working just fine, but the power button is doa... I have to plug/unplug charger asap I see the LG logo...then it boots just like normal. turning off is to pull battery. I am hoping I can Root/ rom and get rid of bloat! its a 2.2.1froyo never been reset and would like to get a little more life out of it. I've had it almost 18months! Thanks in advance for any ideas or suggestions...if its not doable...I'm buying another off ebay and rooting/rom it then. Josh

You should still be able too. Even better, once you root it, you can change the buttons around, so you can make the search button your Powerbutton as well.

Getting into recovery is going to be a real pain. You're going to have to do it through adb instead of manually. But other than that. You should most likely stick with one REAL stable ROM instead of experimenting around a lot. This is because if you get a bootloop, you're absolutely screwed if you don't have access to adb.

noob here...adb? and which stable rom???...I am trying to root right now, but reboot only took a few minutes....I have to check my root status.

help! I have gotten to the point of using the flashimage gui to install the custom recovery image, now im LOST!! which rom and whats my next step...Ive just bitten off more than I can chew. It installed and now my next step is a Rom???? i need to backup original rom right?? how??

ok ive done the backup of everything but sd-ext. and cwm says its complete! now for a stable rom....harmonia or gingerbread cm7.i IHO??????? whew...

yes the gui worked and the recovery install is good, just backed up the whole orig rom except for sd-ext. I flashed the vm670nh_recov so far only 8 tabs open!!! to follow the right steps!

And a backup. You don't need SD ext unless you do stuff like wanting a boost of memory. Don't forget to flash Google Apps as well.

My power button has been broken for months. I still flash all the time. Its a good idea to have buttonremapper and quickboot on your sd card at all times now hahah.
