I was wondering, since there is a way to "eject" an SD card is it necessary to power off the device in order to safely remove the SIM tray?

I've always powered off, but it's a hassle sometimes and I was wondering if it's really necessary.

Not sure on the official/correct answer, but I hot pull them multiple times a day with zero issue. Some phones (Sony comes to mind) power down when you pull them. Now that said, with most sim trays also holding the Micro SD card, I would avoid doing so with the Micro SD card in, especially if it has activity on it. Most phones even reconnect just fine when I put the sim back in as well.

Good to know. I wasn't sure if the SIMs were hot swappable. The SD cards can be "ejected" prior to physical removal so I would at least do that.

I just needed to install a larger SD card so I ended up powering off the phone to be safe.
