With the European incentives supposedly being leaked in France , will this sway anyone one way or the other?

From memory -

Bump to 256 ( ridiculous that 128 is offered on a late 2024 "flagship" )
Extra €150 / €200 trade in
6 months 2TB G One / 12 months AI Premium

( Vanilla / Pro )

Undoubtedly the US values will exceed these at least.

Nope, I'm waiting for the first few reviews. If not much different from my 8 pro I'll wait for the 10. Usually buy the 256gb version anyway which is sufficient for me.. Don't use much cloud storage (using 9gb of my free 15 gb in Google Photos) so that's not much of an incentive for me.

I'm 1.5Tb deep into cloud storage , so a year of the AI Premium / 2Tb has value to me, taking the sting somewhat off this year's ridiculous prices.

The 9 won't feel much different to use than your 8. Similar mediocre tensor .

Pre-order promo pretty weak in Canada. No pre-order promo at all for the smaller Pro model, and later availability as well. I'm going to wait on this one a bit. Hopefully they'll go on sale for Black Friday.

Not only that, Google is once again putting it to Canadians. Price for a Pixel 9 Pro XL 128GB with Pixel 8 Pro 128GB as trade-in:

USD $1099 - $699 = $400
CAD $1499 - $500 = $999

USD TO CAD = 1.37, so an equal deal would have Canadians paying around $548. Instead, Google wants Canadians to pay almost double what the Americans market pays.

Ever wonder why you seldom see another Pixel in Canada? 🤬

Hmmm, maybe it's where I live but I think on average I see more pixels than Samsung. Maybe because it's an affluent town? You'd think it'd be iPhone but nope.

That is interesting. I can honestly say that in my travels throughout western Canada I have only seen one Pixel, besides the P6P I sold and my current P8P. Mostly I see truckloads of iPhones, some Samsung's, and the odd Motorola. Pixels are even sparse on the used buying sites out west compared to other phones, although it is true that it seems that you see more listed in Calgary and Edmonton than other parts of the west. For me, owning a Pixel has been kind of like owning a BlackBerry back in the days when BlackBerry was in its final death throes - I saw very few of them and when I did they definitely caught my attention and interest.

Your different experience certainly could be due to affluence in your area... or maybe the circles you travel just have good taste... or maybe I just run with the wrong crowd since I retired. 😉

How long do early promos usually last? They're offering me a lot for my 7Pro. Should I wait until Black Friday?

It's almost half the price of the 9P XL with trade-in which seems like a steal. Anyone think BF come close to that?

Aug 28 is the end date of the promo.

There will be better (net) offers down the road. I got the P8 around Christmas for $250 off the MSRP with a $450 trade-in credit for my Samsung S24. Net cost of $0, before taxes. The offers were not that good at launch.

Black Friday will be at least as good as the current offers, and there's a good chance of something better a bit later.

Thanks for your input. I "need" to move on from my Fold 4 and the P9 Fold is very tempting, BUT the trade in values (for those who trade) are so much better with Samsung. For example if you trade a F4, the F6 will cost roughly $764 (with a couple of discounts), while the P9F will cost $1,350 (you do get a $350 credit as well). That's a pretty big difference.......

Google gives better trade-in offers for comparable competitors' phones, certainly as an incentive to switch. I don't believe Apple and Samsung are quite as generous in that respect. I don't expect to see that change. I also don't expect to have the great deal that I got last year, as I would be trading a year old phone this time, plus the MSRP went up $100 for comparable models. Likely a net price of $200-$300 instead of $0. Current net price I'd pay today is $350. So you won't be losing out on savings by waiting.

I know there's a $200 Google store credit, but I have little interest in that. And no interest in advanced AI.

Perhaps I misunderstand your post, but Google is offering less than Samsung for a trade in on a new fold (I haven't done an exhaustive comparison but I think it holds true regardless of whether you switch). If you are trading, the price difference between the Google and Samsung phones can be significant.

I wasn't clear. I meant that Google's own trade-in offers are better for competitors phones than their own comparable devices. I don't know If Samsungs' offers are generally better overall. I have bought their watches and many of their trade-in offers were very generous.
