still working 2.2 on my shift cuz it was the easiest to root using a one click method so I can tether with my TouchPad...but I keep skipping updates and haven't really used tether much anyway. With the latest update, do I have to do anything prior to excepting the update? I'm coming from webOS and there was always patches, kernals, and themes etc that needed to be removed prior to accepting ota updates or there could be trouble. Is there anything I need to do prior to updating keeping in mind that I am still rocking v2.2? Sometimes in these cases you may have to update to one major update before I can allow the next update...can someone let me know please. Thanks.

P.S. Is it worth it to update my device to the evo 4g or should I continue to hold out for something better to release on Sprint...whenever that may be. I have one sitting here as a paper weight as it has a bad esn number. I'm thinking of rooting it so I can at least use the wireless connection...if that's not a pita.

thanks guys!

edit: do I have a buger or a foul stinch cuz it seems nobody ever attempts to answer my questions...I just looked back at all my posts asking questions and its as if I never wrote anything at all...its confusing and a little disappointing. I guess I'm still used to webOS, I always got responses, even if they were to just tell me it was a dumb question and the answer is on the post directly above. What's the deal?

Well the only dumb question is an unasked question but dunno for sure but i think you can take any update from 2.2 dont quote me on this but if you take it head over to xda for. The work around root for 2.3.4. Like i said dont quote me on it

Holley2583,
I am sure there is no stench involved. The forums over here seem to be a different type of community. Not that it is bad, it is just different. I hope you stick with it, this is a valid question, I remember the Weos days and have had the ohh no trouble you are talking about. Keep asking the questions I am sure someone will give you a good answer. I would check out Turkbot's reply I got a lot of help at the xda to be able to unlock my HTC Evo 3d 1.5 I am running Cleanrom and love it! I hope you have a good day!

Yeah its a really big community over there and alot of very experianced developers as well and alot of people that prolly be able to answer your question better than me

I If your running stock 2.2 you shouldn't have any issues updating. Also, do you have temp or full root? If your already permanently rooted, why not just flash a Gingerbread ROM. It would be kinda pointless to update if you want to maintain root...

And don't trade for the EVO.. :)

To reply to your edit... To kinda add to what the other posters said, the Shift community is a small one and only a small fraction of that come to this site. You'll find more shifters hang out over at the developers forum (me included). Nothing against AC, it's just where most of have migrated.

I do not know about the shift crump84 but I do love my HTC Evo 3d lol.

ok, xda here I come...shoulda thought of that earlier as that where I found how to perm root my shift. So, what I can do is just flash to gingerbread Rom instead of updating and losing my tether option...smaht.. That's how we talk up hea.. Thanks guys, I guess my bugers gone! Haha
