Predictive text & "user dictionary"

I had s3 mini for 2 years, and just replaced it, but this is newer model (1800 rather than 1790).

There seem to be many improvements/differences, but user guide not updated.

On earlier version I used predictive text, but could also "train" phone to learn new words which I assume are stored in user dictionary somewhere. It was also good at learning sequences of words and proposing what might come next.

New model seems to use predictive text - but I can't find menu to fiddle with settings.

And I don't seem to be able to train it to learn new words. It keeps "auto correcting" back to what it thinks the word should be, even if I have used "new word" before (or several times before!).

QUESTIONS

1) Whereabouts can I locate settings for predictive text

2) How do I train this model to learn new (and exciting) words?

Are you using the stock keyboard?

Either way, you should be able to go into Settings->Language and Keyboard->(Your Keyboard) and that will pop up a bunch of settings for whatever keyboard you're using. From there you should be able to find whatever dictionary and advanced options you're looking for/the keyboard offers.

When I go to "Language and Input" I get the following:

Default > Samsung Keyboard (which I can click on - I will come back to this)

Then under this is

"check box" (unticked) "Google voice to text"

no checkbox available "Samsung Keyboard"

I unticked the "Google voice" thing, but no box is available in order to tick for samsung keyboard.


Going back to the above - if I click on the arrow next to default (which has Samsung keyboard written under it) I get a pop up box which says

"Choose input method"

Samsung keyboard is the only option listed, and there is a green dot in the round check box next to bit.

A button under this invites me to "set up input methods", but given only one option available it just takes me back to higher up menu.


If I click on "samsung keyboard" this allows me to see "predictive text" option and the green slider is highlighted, so this is on.

But how do I train this new phone to learn new words. It seems immune!

Either that or it is a dunce!
