Preparing for 4.2

Can anyone provide advice on steps that should be taken prior to the soon to come (I hope) upgrade to Android 4.2? I went through numerous rebuilds of Motorola Droid phones after the upgrade to ICS and am on my third replacement now. I want to do everything right with the Nexus 7 to avoid the do-overs. Will a factory reset be advised after the upgrade and if so, is there a way to have Google reinstall the apps automatically? I used App Backup and Restore on the phones and it worked OK, but if there is something easier I would like to know what it is. Should I clear cache (system, not apps) after the upgrade and if so, how is this done on the Nexus 7?

Just install the update without doing anything special I would say. Google is good about updating devices, an update won't ruin your n7. If you are rooted, obviously you have to do some more research before you update.

So I have yet to do research on this for myself. What knowledge do I need about my rooted N7 when 4.2 goes live?

If you're concerned about it, you could do a backup (I keep hearing good things about titanium backup, which requires root).

Thanks for the quick response. I think the ICS upgrade from Motorola had issues that replacing a phone that functoned fine before it was probably a software issue and didn't require 3 replacement phones but what do I know. Like you, I don't think Google will let this happen to the Nexus 7 but I want to be prepared just in case.

The good news is, that even if something does go wrong, you won't lose all your important stuff like contacts. Heck, i think Google even backs up all your app data from third party apps. So you should be fine

Install ota rootkeeper and use it to backup your su prior to the update so you can restore it if lost afterwards.
