Hi Everyone I'm new and have only posted once or twice before but I am eagerly awaiting more details about our soon to be new flagship for Sprint. I'm starting this thread to discuss some options for accessories that could be purchased prior to the release of the Evo. I was curious if there was any reason someone couldn't just get a set of 5 or 10 screen protectors off of Ebay for the T-Mobile HD2 now since they are relatively inexpensive or if it would be better to wait for the screen protectors that are launched with the phone. Also would someone be able to pick up a spare battery now? I've heard whispers that the Evo uses the same battery as the current HTC Hero, is this correct? And if so why could we go ahead and order one while they are in low demand?

Just spit-balling some ideas here. Curious what everyone here thinks. Thanks! I look forward to your feedback.

YMMV, but I personally wouldn't buy accessories on a phone that I haven't touched yet.

  • Maybe the HD2 battery/screen protector/case/etc will work with the EVO. Or maybe not. You won't really know until the device is released, and could end up spending money on something that won't work.
  • I'm currently planning to buy an Evo. But there's always a chance that something even better is announced in the same time frame, or there's some fatal-to-me-flaw in the Evo that changes my mind once I actually see one.

So for now, my preparations are all between-the-ears software upgrades. :D i.e. Learning about Android, reading a few Android blogs and forums, in preparation for what will likely be my next device.

I figure a car mount will or will not be released with the phone. I know what I'm going to do for that though. I'm currently making a car mount for my Hero (if the actual windshield mount ever makes it) from directions I saw on-line at XDA. Its really simple and takes about 10 minutes and about $10 for a custom fitted mount. I wouldn't buy a case for an HD2 and expect it to fit as the backs of these two devices will be completely different. Also, I'm wondering how a case is going to work with that kickstand.

I wasn't really referring to a case, more of just the screen protectors, the clear film that can help the screen from getting dirty and scratched. Does anyone have any reason to believe that those may or may not work? (if someone were to purchase HD2 models)

Well if you cut it to just the screen, i think it should work. You can't get one to cover the entire fron as the buttons on the HD2 are physical and the buttons on the Evo are touch sensitive

That's what I was thinking. I was just trying to get some ideas out for everyone thanks for you response rufflez.

Yeah, just took a look at the speaker on the front, looks just from appearance to also be the same shape. The other difference I can tell is the front facing camera.

Don't buy accessories until you are certain about specs, other phones may be close in appearance, but just make sure

While they look similar, the HD2 and EVO are different so don't buy HD2 accessories for the EVO. The body design is different on every side.

I Zagged my Hero and will never put a film on any device. After 5 months it soaked up the oils from my skin and trapped so much dirt when I took it off it was brown.

It also started to affect the sensitivity of the touch screen.
