Preparing network

My GS3 constantly display a message in the notification bar "preparing network". it does that whenever i either turn off or on wifi and mobile network. does anyone know what it means?

Your phone is basically hand shaking the Sprint data network via cell.

I don't get that message. But the handshaking term means that the phone signal is being established with the network.

That's weird because I don't lose signal while it does that.

Whatever data is being transferred at the time is put on 'pause', while the new connection is established and then resumed seamlessly. You wouldn't notice anything other than the brief delay.
