Pressing buttons while on a call

Okay guys I need help. Whenever I'm on a phone call, the proximity sensor doesn't seem to work properly ESPECIALLY outdoors. I have to be very very specific with how I hold my phone when I'm making a phone call. I can usually handle it so its not that big of an issue for me. However, whenever I give my phone to someone else to make a phone call they're constantly muting, calling other people, and ending the call with their face.

What gives? I'm on ViperDNA but I had this issue with my last DNA and on stock with this DNA. :( Is there some sort of setting I can use to bypass the proximity sensor and have the screen ALWAYS OFF during phone calls until I press the unlock button?

While I haven't had this issue on my DNA, I did have it on my thunderbolt. My only solution was to hit the power button when I started a call to turn the screen off, then hit it again if I needed the screen. I was running stock on the thunderbolt, but I think my proximity sensor was shot.

The one on my DNA has been very good, so far.

that's normal, you have to just turn off the screen using the power button.

Sounds also like your proximity sensor is bad. I'd get a replacement. I had a bad proximity sensor on an older HTC also.

That's not what I wanted to hear:/ I've started pressing the lock button and I think that'll be good enough.

yeah it's annoying. it basically drove me nuts for a couple days before getting a replacement because the screen wouldn't turn off during calls and I'd hit all sorts of buttons.

You can test the proximity sensor.
From the dialer, *#*#3424#*#*. This will bring up the HTC testing menu. Choose p-sensor to test the proximity sensor.

The proximity sensor is located in the top right of the phone, about 1/6 inch from the right of the Verizon logo.

That was interesting. It responded quickly and worked well. Weird.
