I inserted the SD card in my tablet. I successfully mounted it. But it's still storing everything to the device. What am I doing wrong or not doing?

Android does not allow for the SD card to be the default storage location as a system-wide setting. Some apps will allow for saving data there, some apps will allow for moving the app or the app data there. For those that allow moving the app to the SD card, when they update they're going to move back to internal storage.

SD cards are much slower than the internal storage, I would use it for bulk media storage (movies, pictures, Amazon Video cache, Netflix cache, etc) and keep apps on the internal storage.

Look in the settings for each app you use to see if they have an option to default to the SD card for storage of data. Not every app will have that option. Examples of apps that do have the option to choose the SD card as default would be the Camera app, Kindle (and pretty much all e-readers), and most streaming video apps.

Thanks guys. I went into each separate app and yes: only some can be moved. But I cannot for the life of me find a way to store photos and videos on the card, the gallery app cannot be moved. 🧐😕

Interesting - I just looked on my Tab S7 and don't see an option to select the save location for new pictures taken by the camera. I don't have an SD card installed though so that may matter.

In the case of Gallery - Gallery isn't actually storing the data directly but accessing the files/images stored by the camera app or just pictures or videos on the device in general. If you move pictures into a Pictures folder on the SD card Gallery should see those and display them (try it with one).

Aïe aïe aïe you guys, the learning curve coming from Apple, whoooooa... but I got it: I was supposed to open the camera app first, a window popped up saying the tablet had detected an SD card and do I want my pics and videos stored there, I tapped yes and voilà. It may take me until my next Android but ill get it 😆

LOL, the converse is true as well -- I recently got my daughter an iPhone 8, and therefore had to get my own iPhone 8 to supervise it. You can sometimes hear me gnashing my teeth as I try to figure out how to do something that's probably really simple!:p
