Pretty sure I know what's going on with my phone data

Ive been paying closer attention to when I lose data, and it seems to be only in marginal signal areas. My Inc would have kept trying in these same areas, but I think the GN shuts down data entirely to save battery. I'm actually not sure if thats such a bad idea, as I've been getting decent battery life with the phone so far, and that may be why. I would like some more control, but whatever. I'd really prefer if it tried to reconnect more frequently though, seems like I don't get data back for up to 5-10 minutes after getting a strong signal back.

You really think Verizon would be replacing all these devices for losing data connection if this was a feature of the phone? Also, these "marginal signal areas" are marginal for 4G data but 3G is strong in most places in the country so if it did shut off the 4G data it should be connected to 3G data so the phone was still usable (which is how it is supposed to work anyway).

I don't know why you would try and justify a bug in the phone with a theory like this?

I have held off asking for a replacement. Are the new phones fixing this issue.

not that i have seen. but the new radios seem to help out a lot. i am on 4.0.4 radios and rarely do i get no data....and if i do, it is usually a pretty quick swap.

No, my replacement acts the same as the original. If you call verizon with this issue they first have you do a sim swap and then replace the phone. I think it is just to appease the customer and get them out of the store.

Thx. The phone is awesome except I can't use 4 g.

My replacement fixed the phone. I had a new one bought on 12/15 and was weary about replacing it, because I really believed it would be fixed with a radio update. I was wrong. My phone was just bad.

OP, don't be apologetic or marginalize this as a software bug. The evidence is right here on the forums that something is wrong with a select number of devices. Many people complaining of signal drops, while many others are telling them they are crazy. The people saying there is nothing wrong with the device are the people that got the good ones.

Do yourself a favor and get your phone replaced. If that one is the same, have it replaced again. There is an ongoing thread over at rootzwiki about this. Many members have replaced their devices. Some have gotten good ones that hold signal, some have gotten more lemons. It seems that if there is a "bad batch" out there, it is a large batch. Perhaps Samsung's QC is just terrible, I don't know. I can say that my old device dropped all service, constantly, in strong signal areas, no matter which radio I flashed.
My new CLNR device has not dropped service once since I got it.

The more I read about this issue the more I know it is a hardware issue and not software as much. Like will said many think those with the issue are crazy and some who flash the new radios have no help and nothing works. I am extremely lucky to have gotten a perfect one on day one! I have not had a single issue whatsoever and it actually does better than my thunderbolt in low signal areas and keep sup with my droid 3 which is a testament because Motorola has the strongest signal in my opinion. I completely understand your hesitation with getting a replacement because I have been on the tilt-a-whirl of replacements and it sucks losing your phone data and having to send the phones back but if its really bad you probably have a lemon that will not be fixed with any software update sadly.
