The app:
Soft Locker.

Where?
The Market.

The cost?
Free.

Does it prevent wifi from turning off with the screen off?
YES.

How?
It keeps the Nook technically awake, even though the screen's off.

Does it work on both stock B&N Eclair and Nookie Froyo?
I'm using it successfully on Froyo. I read someone say it works fine on the stock ROM too.

Are there any side effects?
There may be a (probably minimal) extra battery drain.

Should I say "WOO-HOO"now?
It is highly recommended.

Sticky this! I know all nook users are concerned with this. Thanks again. And yes, it does work on stock rom.

Interesting. Over on the smartphone side of things, having a rogue app that prevents the phone from sleeping is the kiss of death for battery life. The dreaded "100% wake time". It's one of the first things to check for in the event of crappy battery performance.

The NC is different in this respect? (I don't know. It's an honest question. Maybe there are two kinds of wakefulness.)

My Nook has experienced moderate battery leakage, but being wifi only, I'm alright with it. I'll just throw it back on the charger since it's typically home anyway. Well worth the battery drain to get my push notifications.

Try it. If it's not tolerable, you can always delete. :-)
