That would be because the base G4 has 2GB RAM, 16GB storage, a larger screen, and dual band WiFi for $199, they had to drop the price... Heck, you can get $50 off that and get the "Amazon Prime" version for $149

I believe Best Buy is also selling it at $149 net, by throwing in a $50 gift card. 16gb G3 would need to be $99 to be competitive with that.
