Probably going to cause me to switch. Icon names changed...wtf?

Adios android OS. Today when I turned on my phone all my icon names on my homescreen have been changed to some derogatory terms. (see screenshot, probably not NSFW).

It's only this way on my home screen, the app drawer is unaffected. Using Nova launcher on AOKP rom.

Any one have any clue on how or what causes this? Has it happened to anyone else before.

A reboot did not fix the problem. Probably going to flash back to stock tonight and see if I cant find someone to trade me for an iPhone 4S or something.

Looks like a virus. If the computer (there's a computer in the phone) is running, and it's connected to the outside world, it's susceptible to viruses. Android, Windows, iOS, MacOS, Linux - it doesn't make any difference. A programmer can write a virus for any operating environment he can write software for.

Clean your phone up and install an antivirus app. (I prefer Avast, but that's a personal choice.)

Ran avast and avg. Neither.one came up with any virus.

You don't have this on iOS. Not a virus or malware.

But I think you're best bet is to start from fresh and wipe the phone clean.

Do you have a friend with a juvenile sense of humor that got ahold of your phone or anything? I suppose thats a possibility as I have never heard of any virus that does this (although it is possible)

Nope, it just happened right before I posted this. I was browsing around in chrome (usual sites, nothing to nefarious), then chrome crashed. I exit it and go to the home screen and it looks like that.

Fixed it by completely wiping the phone and giving MIUI rom a try out.

That is very strange. Wonder what happened. Don't see anyone else on the interwebz reporting this issue.

I wonder if you could reproduce by revisiting the same site it crashed on (not that I'm recommending it, but maybe you discovered some security hole or something).

Or maybe the phone just knows you better than you know yourself (I kid, I kid...)

You don't have this on iOS. Not a virus or malware.

Keep thinking that - until your phone gets infected. Writing viruses and other malware for iOS is pretty simple. It's just not a large market, so people don't bother.

How do you figure it's not a large market with the number IOS devices out there.

Years of using an iOS device & I've never had an issue, nor known anyone to have one.
